Firearms Training

NRA BASIC PISTOL CLASS

Magnum Firearms offers the state required handgun course, developed by the National Rifle Association, using their FIRST Step Program as a guideline. Courses are scheduled twice per month on Saturdays from 9 A.M. to 4 P.M. at Magnum’s Shooting Range.

This course complies with Hawaii's state law that requires handgun purchasers to attend a firearm safety course taught by a NRA certified pistol instructor, which includes training in the fundamentals of handgun safety, practical hands-on training, a live fire shooting session, and information regarding Hawaii's firearms laws.

First, you are given hands-on training on how to load and unload a handgun safely. You will learn the basic fundamentals of shooting, including position, grip, sight-alignment, breath control, trigger pull, and follow-through. Then you dry-fire train with our Beamhit laser target system, to build confidence in controlling the handgun’s recoil.

Then you will begin by shooting a .22 caliber target pistol in our "state-of-the-art" range. After you are familiarized with the correct alignment of sights and trigger press you will shoot various 9mm handguns from Glock, Sigarms, Heckler & Koch, Kahr, and Beretta. This will help you in your selection of which handgun suits you best. Finally, we test your skill with a drill that simulates a self-defense shooting. You will be challenged!

The NRA class fee of $200, includes use of range and handguns, ammunition, targets, ear and eye protection, and course materials. It also includes a $100 credit towards the purchase of any firearm from Magnum.

Magnum Firearms is a privately owned training facility and specializes in providing Hawaii's shooters with a safe shooting environment and opportunities to train.
